real wedding | rosie and fred

WHERE does one even start?

When Rosie came to me to chat flowers back in 2018 I instantly warmed to her; she has the most bubbly personality. When she told me flowers were to be a big part of her day and that they should feature everywhere I got excited. When she showed me her colour palette I got even more excited. Then she allowed me to take creative reign and I knew this wedding would be one I’d never forget.

As the owner of her own business, Rosie Sugden Cashmere, I think perhaps she knew that when you allow a creative person to do their thing you will be rewarded with some pretty cool designs.

To achieve the soft, romantic, whimsical summer wedding vibe I decided to contact a couple of local growers to source some seasonal flowers. The lovely School House Flowers & Cloudberry Flowers produced some amazing mixed buckets of blooms which included ammi, foxgloves, lupins, orlaya, mixed grasses & lots more.

I then ordered peonies, ranunculus, garden roses, tulips, snapdragons, dahlia, delphiniums and much more from growers in Holland which arrived via Flowering Direct.

The arrangements required for Rosie’s wedding were;

  • the bridal bouquet & floral hair comb

  • 3 bridesmaids bouquets

  • gents buttonholes

  • floral pew ends for the church

  • 3 pedestal arrangements for the church

  • floral arch for the church entrance

  • 44 vase arrangements for the trestle tables in the marquee

  • foliage garland for the front of the bar

  • flowers & foliage to be added to the marquee poles

I began setting up the marquee florals on the Friday evening. Orde Food Company had dressed the tables ready for me to add the florals to and Rosie’s choice in linen colour combined with the coloured tapered candles complimented the flowers perfectly.

The setting was simply stunning and the marquee from Best In Tent was probably one of the nicest marquees I have ever seen! It had been erected on the grounds of the family home in Lilliesleaf in the Scottish Borders.

On the Saturday morning it was an early start to get to Bowden Kirk and put together the floral arch. It was a family affair as I needed two vehicles to get all of the buckets of flowers and pedestals to the church so my long suffering husband and kids came along to help too. It was nice to have some company while working away!

Once the church was suitably adorned with flowers I headed off to the family home to add florals to the marquee poles & pass on the bridal party flowers to Rosie and her girls.

Melissa Beattie Photography captured Rosie & Fred’s day so perfectly and Rosie kindly passed on some flowery photos for me to share with you all. I hope they bring you as many smiles while looking through them as they gave me designing them.

Thank you Rosie for allowing me to get creative and play a little part in your special day. It has been the highlight of my summer.
